Paula, the award-winning founder of Old Bexley Soap & Candle Co., is a member of the UK Guild of Craft Soap and Toiletry Makers, has years of experience making the finest of soaps, and you will be in expert hands. She will take you through the traditional cold and hot process to make liquid soap from scratch, step by step, and you’ll leave with all the soap you make on the day.
You’ll be in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We finish with a delicious Afternoon Tea.

YOU WILL LEARN:
• How to make liquid soap using the hob and slow cooker methods
• A real understanding of the properties of soap making oils and why we use them
• How to work safely with lye and create your own recipes using a lye calculator
• The equipment required to make soaps and where to purchase it
• Thickening your liquid soap naturally to achive the perfect texture
• The art of creating your own scent blend from essential oils
• A crucial introduction to compliance, safety regulations and legalities for the sale of handmade soap in the UK.
Whilst there are no prerequisites for this course, an understanding of making traditional cold or hot process soaps would be an advantage
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PRICE
The course includes all ingredients, the use of soap making and protective equipment as well as refreshments and afternoon tea. You’ll take home all the soap you’ve made yourself, (4 litres when diluted), recipe and a comprehensive course handout. Most importantly you’ll have the confidence to make soap at home on your own!
Please bring long sleeve clothing.
Paula made the class interesting. She took her time to go through the process of liquid soap making with us. She was very welcoming as well. I went home smiling and feeling very proud of myself knowing that the knowledge I had gained will help me a lot. I used the liquid soap I took home that evening and my bathroom was filled with a fusion of scents, it felt heavenly.

I have just attended a liquid soap course with Paula at Old Bexley Soap and WOW she couldn’t have been more welcoming , friendly and knowledgeable at what she does! She had us all at our own little work stations with mixing bowls, blenders and safety wear blending our soap from scratch, even did the lye blend and after that was done we mixed our own fragrances to the soap and it came out beautiful!
So pleased with this course, I will be back for more as I feel we learn everything better by doing it ourselves . I have been on other courses where the teachers pre blend the lye and fragrance and that was not to my satisfaction as I want to learn the skill!

The course runs from 10am-3pm in Bexley, Kent, easy to get to from London, Kent, Essex and East Sussex. We’re just a couple of minutes walk from Bexley train station (zone 6 on Oyster Card), with regular trains from London Bridge, Waterloo East, Charing Cross and Cannon Street. Bus 269 and 132 stop just outside. Bus B12, 229 and 492 stop nearby. If you are driving we’re just off the A2 and near the M25.
